Eating Disorder

Unity | Oculus | Adobe Premiere

This project combines two surreal scenes with one realistic scene to depict the psychological activities of individuals with eating disorders. Its purpose is to allow players to experience and understand the behaviors of this group. The difficulty in treating eating disorders is not solely due to a lack of self-control in patients but also stems from their psychological anxiety and vulnerability (beyond mere appearance-related concerns). The project aims to foster greater understanding and compassion towards individuals in this group, challenging preconceived notions that they simply lack willpower or cannot reconcile with themselves.

Script:

The player initially appears in an indoor kitchen, looking at the food on the table.
Knowing that they suffer from an eating disorder, they try hard to restrain themselves from eating but gradually lose awareness.
After struggling to shift their gaze towards the window, their mind unconsciously takes them to a gloomy cave.
Following the sound of water in the cave, they come across dim lights and statues (symbols of self-awareness, urging them not to lose themselves, yet in the cramped cave, the player still attempts to find a way out).
The source of the water sound is a waterfall. Passing through it, they fall into a strange forest illuminated by glowing plants.
In front of them is a vague spiritual entity. The player attempts to chase it, but it's futile.
The spiritual entity symbolizes a longing for the soul, as hunger is essentially the desire born from the lack of the soul.
While chasing the spiritual entity, the food on the table multiplies. In reality, the player gradually approaches the table until their consciousness blurs, moving to the next scene.
The desolate canyon represents confusion and a sense of despair. The player, immersed in it, feels boundless oppression and restlessness. The water-like hallucination in this canyon is the only antidote, representing hope and liberation. The player yearns to find the water source.
However, each time they find water in this scene, it turns out to be a mirage. They then transition back to reality, discovering that they have started eating. They continue returning to the canyon to search for the water source. After a while, unable to endure thirst and despair, they slowly lose consciousness. In a daze, they wake up to find that there is barely any food left on the table.
The scene concludes at this point.
